Western Blots
Simian Immunodeficiency Virus (SIV), is the lentivirus most closely related to Human HIV. SIV infection in monkeys is the preferred model for studying the effectiveness of vaccines and pathogenesis against Human HIV infection.
The ZeptoMetrix WESTERN BLOT is for in vitro detection of antibodies to SIV in serum or plasma, and is available in 10 or 30 strip kit formats.
Western blotting is a technique used in cell and molecular biology to separate and identify specific proteins from a complex mixture of proteins extracted from cells. In this technique, a mixture of proteins is separated based on their molecular weight, through gel electrophoresis, which acts as a molecular sieve.
Results are then transferred to a nitrocellulose membrane producing a band for each protein. The membrane is then incubated with labelled antibodies specific to the protein of interest to produce a coloured band.
