ZIKA NAT CONTROLS: The Zika virus epidemic has now spread to 33 countries and territories in the Americas, since it was first detected in Brazil in 2015. The Brazil ministry of health has reported a minimum of almost half a million cases, with a maximum of up to almost 1.5 million to date. New cases have been discovered in Italy and Denmark. The first case in South Korea has also recently been reported.
The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) has launched a database that gathers worldwide Zika virus research. The image on the top shows the current situtation of transmission worldwide.
PAHO with the World Health Organization (WHO) have offered to provide technical cooperation to support pilot studies of new mosquito control technologies. Their aim is for faster diagnosis and better integration in combat against Zika, as well as Dengue and Chikungunya viruses.
